Commission postpones events and information sessions, continues oversight and monitoring

News 19 March 2020

With the COVID-19 pandemic still evolving, the Commission for Children and Young People continues to act on the latest advice from health authorities.

We acknowledge that everyone is experiencing a time of uncertainty, with impacts on friends, families and workplaces.

In line with public health advice, we have postponed upcoming events, including all information sessions and the Child Safe Standards Community of Practice.

We are, however, continuing with most of our ongoing oversight activities, including monitoring out-of-home care and youth justice. We have suspended some of our onsite monitoring activities, including our Independent Visitor Program in youth justice, but will put in place other measures to engage directly with children and young people.

The Commission website has many resources to assist implementation of the Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Scheme. These can be found at the following link.

Our Enquiry Line continues to operate. If you have specific questions about Child Safe Standards or the Reportable Conduct Scheme, or would like to talk with us further about child safety concerns or a specific matter, please email contact@ccyp.vic.gov.au or call us on 1300 78 29 78. (Restricted hours of 9.30–11.30am and 2.00–4.00pm apply during the Coronavirus shutdown.)

Obligations to comply with the Child Safe Standards and Reportable Conduct Scheme remain in force to keep children and young people safe. Notifcations to the Commission of reportable allegations under the Reportable Conduct Scheme can be made here: Notify about a reportable allegation

Thank you for your understanding during this time. To keep up to date on future information sessions and events, subscribe to receive Commission updates by email here.
