Talking to children about bushfires, and where to get support

The ongoing bushfires crisis in Victoria has had a devastating impact on people, communities and wildlife, and can lead to significant trauma for children directly affected, and for children seeing reports through the media.

The Victorian Government's Better Health Channel has good advice on talking to children about bushfires.

A Case Support Program for Fire-Affected Communities has also been announced, including a telephone contact and referral service through:

1800 560 760

Lifeline also has information about recovering from natural disasters, and is also available for crisis support on:

The Commission extends its thoughts and sympathies to all families and communities who have experienced loss and other impacts through the bushfires.
