Helping children and young people take part in What matters most

Submissions are open until 27 June 2025

We want to hear from children and young people across Victoria about what matters most to them. Anyone aged under 25 can take part and every submission goes into the draw to win great prizes.

This project gives children and young people the chance to get creative and share what’s important to them, including what they would like to see change in Victoria.

How to take part

Children and young people can share their story however they’d like, either individually or as a group. They can:

  • write it down
  • draw a picture
  • record a video or audio
  • create music or something else unique.

They will need access to a smartphone or laptop to upload the creation.

We’ve created an instruction sheet for teachers to use in their classroom.

Getting children and young people inspired

Children and young people can focus on any topic they like, for example:

  • School
  • Family/home life
  • Hobbies
  • Culture
  • Religious beliefs

We have also created a few prompts to help get the creativity flowing:

  • What makes you, you?
  • If they had a magic wand that could make things better for you and your friends, what would you change?

Why take part?

Our job is to try to make sure all children and young people in Victoria are kept safe and well. To do this properly, we want to hear directly from young people.

Submissions will help us advocate for changes to services and laws that affect young people.

If the child or young person provides their consent, we may share their stories to inspire others and raise awareness to government about what needs to change.

Plus, every submission goes into the draw for a chance to win great prizes, like:

  • gift cards
  • tickets to sporting events including AFL and A-League games
  • tickets to fun activities, including zoo passes for you and your friends
  • a day working with the Commissioner
