Victoria Police and the Victorian Government have released information about an investigation into child sexual abuse allegations in Melbourne early childhood education centres.
Child sexual abuse is unacceptable, and we acknowledge the profound impact of abuse on victims, their families and communities. This will be a deeply distressing time for families, including parents and carers of children who have been, or may be identified as victims as part of the investigation.
The Victorian Government has published important information for affected families on their website and established a dedicated hotline on 1800 791 241. They have advised that the hotline is receiving a high volume of calls and are encouraging people to first check the list of childcare centres involved before calling. This will help ensure the families who most need the information can get through as quickly as possible.
The advice line is open 7 days a week, from 8 am to 9 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 5 pm on weekends. You’re able to leave your details and request a call back if you aren’t able to wait for a call taker to answer your call.
Victoria Police are urging anyone wishing to provide information to police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
This news may also raise issues for people who are not directly involved in this matter. The Commission’s website has a list of resources and support services.
